An End to Another Legislative Session
Status on HB71, HB858 and HB200
Unfortunately HB71 regarding the MIC land lease officially died at the Senate WAM in early April. We were informed that the committee did not want to intervene in a contract. While we are disappointed, we again want to thank all of you for the overwhelming support we have received. Representative Choy has already suggested that he will be introducing this bill again next year - in the final year before the MIC goes to UH.
On a very positive note, on April 26th the House/Senate Conference Committee agreed to appropriate $6mm to the Hawaii Growth Initiative, HB858. This is a vote of confidence in the your efforts to build an innovation economy in the State. Please thank your Legislator for their support. We congratulate you and thank you for your support of this initiative over these last several months.
HTDC's request for CIP funds (via budget bill HB200) to build a new incubation facility was not approved this session. There is just one legislative session left until the MIC is scheduled to be turned over to UH, and likely not enough time to construct a replacement facility. Stay tuned…
