The
State of Hawai’i is ideally suited for widespread use of electric
vehicles. The relatively short driving distances and year-round mild
temperatures minimize the range and thermal management challenges
that other parts of the country experience with battery-powered vehicles.
Add to that, the renowned healthy environment and the desire to preserve
it from pollution caused by the increasing numbers of internal combustion
engine vehicles, and one can begin to see the benefits derived from
extensive use of zero emission vehicles. HEVDP will strive to continue
as the catalyst to further electric vehicle development, manufacture,
and sales in Hawai’i. Capitalizing on consortium initiation to
bring together research and development, operating, and marketing
organizations to create an EV industry in Hawai’i, HEVDP plans
to expand its technology development and consumer education activities.
