Patrick H. Oki is an assurance partner in the Honolulu office of Grant Thornton LLP.  Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Mr. Oki spent over 13 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers servicing public and private companies in the Hawaii market.  In addition to providing assurance services to middle market companies, Mr. Oki was the practice leader for PwC’s advisory group in Honolulu.  Mr. Oki has experience in assisting Hawaii companies on improving their internal controls including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and business process improvement work.  As a certified fraud examiner, Mr. Oki has conducted numerous forensic and fraud investigations and has performed various litigation and bankruptcy support work in Hawaii.  He also specializes in mergers and acquisitions in the hospitality industry.

In 1999 and 2000, Mr. Oki was employed by a Hawaii venture capital-backed high-tech company where he helped develop and manage the company’s finance, human resources and accounting functions. Since returning back to public accounting, Mr. Oki has been an advisor to several high-tech companies in Hawaii. Working for a high-tech start-up company and directly with its investors gave him many new experiences and additional knowledge. Mr. Oki received hands-on experience in developing accounting and human resources systems including implementing policies and procedures; producing budgets, forecasts and financial models; writing business plans; and fundraising.

Mr. Oki is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.  He is also the treasurer and board member of the University of Hawaii Alumni Association and the IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre.

Lester J. Hee, CPA --Accountant
Lester Hee is the owner of a certified public accounting practice that has five professionals who provide bookkeeping, accounting, and tax compliance/consulting services primarily to small business clients. Mr. Hee started the firm in 1993 after working 14 years in both the audit and tax practices of an international accounting firm.

Full-service bookkeeping is one option for clients, while other clients choose to customize the level of services—these clients might write their own checks, make their own bank deposits, and reconcile the bank accounts, but need bookkeeping and accounting assistance to prepare a general ledger and compile financial statements. The firm’s professionals utilize computer accounting software programs (QuickBooks, Quicken, Peachtree Accounting, and MAS 90) either in the firm’s office or on clients’ computers. Tax services include preparation of Hawaii general excise tax returns and federal and state income tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, C corporations, and S corporations. Act 221 provides tax incentives related to Hawaii high technology businesses and the firm prepares Hawaii tax returns for businesses and investors that comply with the requirements for obtaining these tax incentives.

KMH LLP
KMH LLP - Alan M.L. Yee

Prior to joining KMH, Alan was the office managing partner and head of the tax department of the Honolulu office of Grant Thornton LLP. With more than twenty years of experience in public accounting, Alan recognized that the rapidly changing competitive environment on the mainland was having a dramatic impact on the national firms operating in Hawaii.
