Message to attendees of the 13th Biennial Hawaii SBIR/STTR & Commercialization Conference
First of all, thank you for registering for the 13th Biennial Hawaii SBIR/STTR & Commercialization Conference. As you know, the government shutdown has made a big impact on everyone, affecting all of us in some direct or indirect way. At this time, we have not heard from the federal managers as to whether or not they can still attend our HISBIR Conference next week.  It is a possibility that should the federal shutdown continue through the week of the conference, they will not be able attend. However, we are very pleased that Mr. Carl Hebron from the Dept. of Energy has been in contact with us and is still planning on coming out.
We are also happy to announce that we still have a great lineup of other speakers and panelists who will be able to talk on some of the SBIR programs, especially on Commercialization.  These experts will share with you their innovative knowledge and experiences in manufacturing, funding, IP, and working with the federal government:

  • Carlos Gutierrez of Larta Institute: Relationships with the federal agencies and commercialization
  • Dr. Paul Pernambuco-Wise of Oceanit: SBIR grant writing
  • Debra Beresini of Invencor and panel, presented by HiBEAM: Strategies to build sustainable companies for emerging growth companies
  • Hawaii Commercialization and SBIR Success Stories Panel: Richard DeVerse of Kona Labs, Ed Knobbe of Spectrum Photonics, and Heidi Kuehnle of Kuehnle AgroSystems

In addition to the conference program, you will also have a chance to meet with these speakers one-on-one to address your specific issues:

  • Richard McNamara: Former Executive Director of PEO Submarines, Department of Navy
  • Alan Deibert of MilTech: Manufacturing and Prototype to Market
  • Ray Friesenhahn of TechLink: Working with DoD, Technology Commercialization, proposal preparation
  • John Trbovich of Arsenal Ventures: Venture Capital funding expert
  • Marc Morley of Foley & Lardner LLP: IP strategy with a focus on tech
  • Karl Fooks of Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation: Hawaii's Proof of Concept Center

Conference information can be found on our website: http://www.htdc.org/sbir-2013-conference
We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
