Government Contract Cost Accounting 101

Did you know that you can lose your federal grant or contract if you don't have the proper accounting system in place? Government accounting regulations, standards, and requirements differ in many ways from bookkeeping for a traditional business. Learn the right steps to establish an auditable accounting system, including:

  • What does the federal government consider an adequate accounting system?
  • Understanding the operating policies and procedures of the DCAA
  • What auditors look for–contract audit objectives
  • Allowable and allocable costs defined
  • Compliant timekeeping procedures
  • How to determine and justify indirect rates such as overhead and G&A

Intended Audience: Individuals interesting in applying for or have received a government grant or contract, including SBIR and STTR, or those who are interested in contracting with the government to provide any service or product.

SESSION 2

Intellectual Property - How to Build, Protect and Create IP Value for Your Federal Award

Developing an IP strategy and managing the IP are critical to gaining long-term value from your patent, trademark, copyright or trade secret. Learn from this workshop:

  • Understanding the basic IP rights and their competitive advantages in the marketplace
  • Motivations for filing your IP
  • Developing IP under a government contract: understanding data rights
  • Hiring others to work on your R&D project--are you sure you own the IP?
