Background
The Hawaii Small Business Innovation Research Grant Program was established in 1989 to provide grants to Federal Phase I SBIR awardees (up to 50%) of Phase I Award - maximum $25,000, for research that is performed in the State of Hawaii.
The Hawaii SBIR Program has increased:
The number of Phase I and II applicants
The dollars brought into the State
The number of jobs for some companies and maintained existing jobs for other companies
The number of spin-off projects
The soft infrastructure of technology-based companies since funds allowed companies to purchase computers and other equipment
SBIR Goals Encourage Hawaii companies to participate in Federal SBIR Program
Enhance competitiveness of Hawaii companies for Phase II awards
Increase potential for full commercial development of Hawaii innovation
