outreach
programs, partnerships and web-based
activities, HTDC is assisting in the
development of a viable technology workforce
in Hawaii.
HTDC
created the Tech Jobs Hawaii Consortium
in 2000 in response to the private sector’s
desire for a workforce development initiative,
specifically targeting former Hawaii
residents in the technology workforce
living in the continental U.S. The consortium’s
goal is to increase the high technology
talent pool for local companies by raising
awareness of high tech job opportunities
in Hawaii. Consortium members meet to
plan for upcoming tech events such
as job fairs, mentoring and internship
requests, and speaking engagements at
schools and career day exhibitions.
The consortium’s cornerstone is
an annual Holiday Tech Fair, where its
main focus is to inform college students
and former Hawaii residents home for
the holidays of opportunities for tech-related
jobs available in Hawaii.

In May 2003, HTDC entered into a partnership
with Global Pau Hana, a world-wide, web-based
grassroots program that connects 3,000-plus
people with an affinity to Hawaii. GlobalPauHana.org
provides members with information on
upcoming social events in their areas,
listings of Hawaii ex-pats living in
their cities, and most importantly updated
information on job opportunities in Hawaii.
With the assistance of HTDC, Global Pau
Hana members will soon receive e-mail
alerts when a Hawaii job opportunity
is available in their area of interest
and expertise.
