The Hawaii Technology Development Corporation (HTDC) was awarded 2 grants totaling $69,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Business Development Grant Program.

The funding will be used to support HTDC’s Neighbor Island Innovation Initiative (NI3) Program. As HTDC operations are based primarily on Oahu with some support on Maui, the NI3 program was established in 2015 to provide business mentoring to startup and small companies on Hawaii Island and Kauai to support them in achieving next level of growth. As the needs for business support and consulting services grow, NI3 mentorship will be expanded to serve the entrepreneurs and businesses of Maui County. Mentorship services are provided as needed to local businesses and are available, resource permitting, for as long as they have a need, ensuring improvement and progress. The mentors also perform as an economic development resource supporting the regional communities. They serve as a liaison for HTDC and DBEDT state programs. The NI3 program offers overall mentorship, business and technical support, and workshops, as well as help with identifying funding opportunities for small and early-stage companies engaged in technology-based products or services.
